QUiRK TALES’ TALENTED FIVE OF 2011
I’ve featured some pretty dope individuals over the past twelve months and come to know some great people who are out here trying to make a way by way of their craft. Here’s an all-star line up of those folks and be sure to look for them in 2012! …
SORE LOSERS/BRAINGANGBLUE: I had the best experience in March when I stopped by the SORE LOSERS show during SXSW in Austin, TX; I’ve been covering the hip hop duo since the beginning of my blogging “career” and have always enjoyed them. It hurt my heart to find that BLUE, the producer of the duo, had stepped away from the group that now consists of a live band; however, things happen and as a result, both parties have unleashed some great material that I thoroughly enjoy – BRAIN GANG BLUE with his “NUMB” EP and SORE LOSERS with their recent track, “Euthanasia”, which was posted on the GRAMMY website earlier this year. I’m sure both of these acts will have a strong presence at 2012’s SXSW and I can’t wait to see them!
Loyal KNG recap of the Sore Losers album First Listen Session. “We Are Sore Losers” Album Droppin 2012!
Last Friday, we were invited out to Sore Losers private preview listening party for their newest and first album release, “We Are Sore Losers“. It was an awesome opportunity for us to catch the talented Sore Losers crew perform up close and live in person. In Dallas, there’s not a lot of artist doing the innovative things that Sore Losers is paving the way for. Sore Losers isn’t just a hip-hop act, but a cohesive band with a touch of hip-hop to accent the music that they create together as a family of artists. It’s definitely something different, new, and fresh, and I’m absolutely ecstatic to witness a growth of a new musical movement in Texas that is Sore Losers.
Dallas Observer: Best Local Hip Hop of 2011
If you had to mark the starting point of this current era of local hip-hop, it would have to be the release of Sore Losers’ epic Freeloaders album in late 2009. After going to California and back, the group that started as Brown (rapper) and Blue (producer/hypeman) underwent a change and recruited five-piece band HelloeARTh. Sore Losers is now a six-piece outfit, with Brown as the lyricist. A recent local listening event previewed eight songs from the band’s We Are Sore Losers EP, due out next month. Highlight: The socially-conscious lead single from We Are Sore Losers, “Euthanasia.”
